Hero for the Uninsured Awards annually recognize health care providers, access partners, medication suppliers, medical facilities, volunteers and other key players who assist uninsured Upper Peninsula residents to access health care and/or who provide support/resources in cooperation with the U.P. Access Coalitions:

Community Health Access Coalition (CHAC) of Chippewa, Luce and Mackinac counties;
Medical Care Access Coalition of Dickinson and Iron Counties (DIMCAC);
Medical Access Coalition (MAC) of Delta and Menominee counties;
Medical Care Access Coalition (MCAC), including MCAC-Schoolcraft and MCAC-Alger, serving Marquette, Alger and Schoolcraft counties, and
Western Upper Peninsula Healthcare Access Coalition (WUPHAC), serving Houghton, Baraga, Gogebic, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties.

Awards are presented each spring by the Upper Peninsula Health Access Coalition (UPHAC). In May 2012, awards will be presented at the fifth U.P. “Hero Awards” Dinner in Marquette.
